Resilient CO2 Capture, Transport and Storage (CCS) Infrastructure Across Europe: Risk, Monitoring, Systemic Resilience, Policy

Description

Large-scale CCS deployment is central to Europe’s pathway toward climate neutrality. These infrastructures transcend borders interacting with natural and built environments and must operate under diverse geological, environmental and sociopolitical conditions. Their resilience requires integrating hazard, engineering design, continuous monitoring and systemic risk management.
This session provides a platform for sharing scientific and technical advances supporting safe and resilient development of CCS infrastructure across/beyond Europe. Contributions are invited on topics including -but not limited to- natural hazard assessment; multi-hazards affecting CCS systems; monitoring innovations; induced/natural seismicity; environmental monitoring; integrating CCS into existing energy/transport systems; policy, governance and socioeconomic frameworks for long-term resilience.

This session is proposed using EU demo project COREu as a springboard, soliciting contributions from across the CCS spectrum, including projects all the way from concept and design to past and current implementations worldwide. COREu develops pilot CO₂ routes across Europe with multidisciplinary collaborations between academia, research, policy, technology and industry, to demonstrate how hazard-informed design, monitoring and cross-border governance can support Europe’s climate objectives. Contributions are solicited from scientists, engineers, practitioners and policymakers working on any aspect of CCS resilience worldwide (technical, social, environmental etc.), to bring all parties together and share experiences and lessons learnt.
