Biography

Prof. Dr. Bryan T. Adey is Professor of Infrastructure Management in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich (ETH Zürich). He leads the Infrastructure Management Group within the Institute for Construction and Infrastructure Management, where his research focuses on improving the effectiveness and efficiency of infrastructure management through process standardization, automation, and data-driven decision support. His work covers the entire infrastructure management cycle, from goal setting and monitoring to optimization of intervention programs and evaluation of organizational performance. A significant aspect of his research involves quantifying risk, resilience, and recovery strategies for infrastructure networks exposed to extreme events.

He is actively engaged in transferring research outcomes to practice through collaboration with infrastructure owners and governmental agencies and has contributed to various international research initiatives. In education, he is committed to advancing the professionalization and automation of infrastructure management and teaches courses in systems engineering, evaluation tools, and optimization. He also serves as Director of Studies for the Master’s program in Spatial Planning and Infrastructure Systems at ETH Zürich.

Prof. Adey currently serves as President of the Swiss Association for Road and Transport Professionals (VSS) Committee on Maintenance Management and is a member of the Swiss Society of Engineers and Architects (SIA), the Swiss Association for Municipal Infrastructure, and the Institute of Asset Management. He regularly contributes to international forums and policy discussions organized by the UN and OECD and serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Infrastructure Asset Management and the Journal of Infrastructure Systems.
