Biography
Dr. Vintzileou studied civil engineering at the National Technical University of Athens (Diploma 1977, PhD 1986). Professor of RC and Masonry Structures and Director of the Laboratory of RC. She teaches at under- and post-graduate level (e.g. Advanced Mechanics of Masonry and Documentation, Assessment and Intervention Techniques). Her research is focused on seismic behaviour and design of RC and masonry structures, documentation/assessment of historical structures, intervention techniques to RC and masonry structures, development of materials for intervention, and application of non-destructive techniques for in-situ investigations. 50 research projects (Coordinator of 40 of them). Author/co-author of more than 260 papers in Journals and Conference Proceedings, and 14 chapters in books.
Selected projects supervised by E.V. are: „Investigation of construction and mechanical behaviour of masonry of Dafni Monastery (UNESCO monument), „Investigation of construction and behaviour of masonry before and after interventions, Katholikon of Ossios Lucas Monastery (UNESCO monument):”, “Panagia Krina: Identification of timber laces, assessment”, “Documentation-Assessment and Interventions: Rehabilitation of the Medieval Arch Bridge at Kremasti-Lesvos”, “NIKER-New Integrated Knowledge based Approaches to the Protection of Cultural Heritage from Earthquake-induced Risk”, “Documentation, assessment and interventions to the historic arch bridge of Konitsa, Epirus”. Within the (EU funded) project INSYSME (www.insysme.eu), she is co-inventor of a masonry unit and an infill system, granted with patents by the Greek Patent Office to the company XALKIS S.A.
