Biography

Amir Kaynia has more than 30 years of experience in geotechnical, structural and earthquake engineering through research, teaching and engineering practice. His major fields of work include dynamic soil-structure interaction, geotechnical earthquake engineering, and vibration from high-speed railways. He received his MSc (1979) and PhD (1982) from MIT, and is currently Technical Expert on Vibration and Earthquake Engineering at NGI. He is also Adjunct Prof. of structural engineering at the Norwegian Univ. of Science and Technology (NTNU).

Amir Kaynia has delivered numerous invited lectures at international conferences. He is author/co-author of several book chapters and more than 160 technical papers in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. He has taught undergraduate and graduate courses on earthquake engineering, soil and structural dynamics, and has supervised numerous MSc and PhD thesis researches. He is member of the European committee on revision of Eurocode 8, Part 5, and is on the Editorial Board of journals of Soil Dynamics & Earthquake Eng. and Transportation Geotechnics.
