Theme Lecture – Climate Change Impact: an asset managers’ perspective

Many asset managers today are facing the challenges of climate change impact on their infrastructure network that can threaten the long-term performance of their network, which is often depending on the performance of other types of infrastructure (so-called cascading effects).

Asset managers have to decide on maintenance, retrofitting and new investments over a time horizon of decades upto sometimes a 100 years, taking into account the uncertainty of climate change scenarios and other developments, such as socio-economic and technological developments.  The asset managers wonder how to assess current and future climate change risks for existing and newly planned infrastructure? And more importantly: how to set up a coherent, integrated and efficient adaptation strategy?

In this lecture three cases are presented that show hands-on approaches and new developments to answer these questions in the industry, transport and flood defence sector in Turkey, Albania and the Netherlands.
